Counselling

Alisha Guthery is a licensed mental health counselor and doctoral student at the Counselor Educator and Supervision school at Antioch University, Seattle. Primary interests include understanding violence, the impact of violence on cultures and society, and the structures of power that maintain violence. Ms. Guthery works with both victims and abusers of violence, and her accomplishments include developing and implementing domestic violence programs for incarcerated women and youth. Ms. Guthery has presented on domestic violence at the Washington Counselor Association, American Psychological Association, and the Association for Women in Psychology. Publications include two articles on the subject of transnational feminism and domestic violence.

Somatic Transformation

Alisha has had the pleasure of studying with Sharon Stanley, a dynamic teacher with profound wisdom. Somatic Transformation is a soma-based practice inspired by interpersonal neuropsychology, phenomenology, and indigenous practice. It conceptualized trauma healing as a relational experience built on ongoing experiences of connection.

Polyvagal Theory Informed care

Alisha has been trained in Polyvagal Theory Informed care (PVI). While there is much that goes into understanding the work of PVI, the essence of this theory as it relates to Alisha's work is that it is body-based, nonpathological, and recognizes that behavior and responses are often adaptive to lived experience.
